Track Changes to Critical Datasets with Data Variance in Data Central

This article is currently being updated. Please come back later for updates.

Important: This feature must first be enabled in Study Configuration. Best practice is to enable this feature before the first data import. Watch corresponding video.

Note: The Change History Summary seen in the Details View is available for versions 23.3 and later.

Instructions

  1. From a Data Central study, open a Domain with the listing and details view icon.
  2. To open the Data Variance pop-out window, click the Data Variance icon in the domain panel toolbar.
  3. Enter or select the two dates to compare for data variance.
  4. Check which types of data variance you want to view:
    1. Green indicates new records.
    2. Orange indicates updated records.

Tip: If all records are displaying green, it means they did not exist on the first date. To only view records that were updated at least once since they were created, whether they existed or not on the first date, uncheck New Records.

Note: You can also view deleted records during this date range, by clicking the corresponding link.

  5. To view the Data Variance for that date range, click Apply.
  6. In the Details view, fields that were updated are indicated with an icon and you can scroll to the right to see the changes. Click the icon to view a change summary history for that field (23.3 and later).
  7. To clear Data Variance, click the Data Variance icon again and click Clear.
