Permissions: When using Tasks, users must have the SCE privilege to Run SCE Programs and Importer privilege for Data Import and Email Notifications.
Note: For 24.1 and later an additional option to cancel stalled Tasks after a set number of hours was added to the Task Tab. This option prevents stalled Tasks from preventing the next scheduled Task from running.
Instructions
- Open Tasks at the Global level or from a Study.
- To add a new Task, click the Add Icon OR Edit an existing Task.
- Task Tab:
- Enter or Update the Name and Description (optional).
- Ensure the task is Active by checking the box.
- Optionally, check to Cancel stalled Tasks and enter a number of hours to wait before canceling. (Feature available with 24.1 and later)
- Schedule Tab: (In the video this step was skipped since it was an existing Task.)
- Set the Start Date and Time, which is the first time or only time the task will run)
- Optionally set a Repeating schedule, the frequency it will reoccur.
- Optionally, set an end date, which means a recurring task will not run beyond that date.
- Action Tab:
- For SCE Programs:
- Click the Add button.
- Select Run SCE Program.
- Best practice is to rename to the program name.
- Dependency: On Success, Action: Import (or previous program action).
- Select the Program from the file tree.
- Click OK button.
- Repeat adding Actions for all desired SCE Programs.
- For Adding Emails:
- Click the Add button and Select Email.
- Best practice is to rename the Email if creating more than one, for example: "Success Email" or "Error Email."
- For the Success Email:
- Dependency: On Success, Action: All Previous Actions
- Enter the Email To, Subject, and Message.
- Click OK button.
- For the Error Email:
- Dependency: On Error, Action: Any Previous Actions
- Enter the Email To, Subject, and Message.
- Check to Include Data.
- Click OK button.
- For SCE Programs:
- Click Save to finalize the Task. Next time this task is scheduled to import data it will automatically run those SCE programs and notify the appropriate people.
