Exclude Variables from a Domain Listing in Data Central

This article is currently being updated. Please come back later for updates.

Permissions: Users must have Data Central and Study Configure permissions.

From the Domain Settings window you can exclude variables and add annotation columns to a listing.

Exclude Variables

Using the Exclude Variables domain setting allows you to limit the variables displayed in a listing and in each record, allowing a user to focus in on the fields, or variables, that are required for data review.

Important: When selecting where to exclude a variable from, it is important to know that if a variable is suppressed and not visible, it is also not tracked for changes in elluminate.

Options to exclude:

  • Exclude in Trial: in any domain and all data stores within that study.
  • Exclude in Data Store: in any domain within that data store.
  • Exclude in Domain: in the domain.
  1. Within a listing click the Configure icon in the panel toolbar. The domain Settings window opens.
    Configure Data Listing.png
  2. Click the Exclude Variables tab. All variables within the domain are listed.

  3. Place a checkmark for each variable to exclude from the study, data store, or domain. Optionally, use the wildcard to exclude variables that start with a sequence of characters or end with a sequence of characters. See the Using a Wildcard section for details.
  4. Click Save.

Use a Wildcard

To add a wildcard exclusion:

  1. Click the + Create Wildcard Exclusion button on the toolbar or right-click in the grid and then select Create Exclusion. A new row is added at the top of the list.
  2. Enter a wildcard mask in the Name field using at least one asterisk ( * ) or percent ( % ) symbol.
  3. Enter a descriptive value in the Label field, not required.
  4. Select one of the exclusion levels, Study, Data Store, or Domain.
  5. Optionally, continue to add additional wildcard names and edit existing exclusions.
  6. Click Save or Cancel.

Wildcard exclusions will show in the grid at the top and the text values (Name and Label) are in bold.

To edit the text fields of a wildcard exclusion:

  1. Click into the Name or Label field
  2. Edit the values.
  3. Click Save.

Note: The same validation rules as when adding will apply to the Name field.

Note: Changing the level of the exclusion behaves the same as any other exclusion. Only one option can be selected at a time.

To delete a wildcard exclusion:

  1. Right-click the row to delete.
  2. Select Delete Exclusion, or click away from the context menu to cancel the process.
  3. Answer Yes on the confirmation dialog, or answer No to cancel the process.

Important: If the user Cancels out of the configuration dialog, all actions (adds, edits, deletes) are canceled. If the user Saves the configuration dialog, all actions are committed to the database. Users can save wildcard exclusions that overlap. i.e. MH* and MH%.
