Permissions: Users must have the Global Library Configure privilege to manage the Global Library.
The Global Library stores promoted mapped domain objects for reuse across studies in Mapper and review objectives for use in Data Central.
For instructions on promoting and importing mapped domains, refer to the Manage a Mapped Domain in Mapper article in the Mapper section. Review the Mapped Domains and the Global Library section.
For instructions on promoting and importing review objectives, refer to the Configure the Integrated Data Review Plan (IDRP) article in the Data Central section. Review the Import Review Objectives From Global Library and Promote Review Objectives to the Global Library sections.
The Global Library supports the following actions:
- Activate or deprecate objects
- Edit object properties
- Add tags for search
- Update scope
- Delete objects
Access the Global Library
- From the Platform Menu, select Global Library under Metadata Management. The Global Library displays.
Navigate the Global Library
The Global Library displays a navigation panel for filtering and a main workspace with folders and objects.
Click arrows next to folders to expand or collapse content.
The object list includes:
Object Name
Type
Status
Source
Last Modified Date
Last Modified By
The blue badge next to Global Library displays the total object count. The count updates when filters are applied.
Filter Library Objects
Use the left navigation to narrow displayed objects.
Filter by Types
In the Types section, select one or more options:
- Select All
- Mapping Domain
- Review Objective
Note: KRI and QTL options display but are not supported.
The list updates to display matching objects.
Filter by Scope
Filter by Therapeutic Areas, Compounds, or Programs.
Click arrows to expand sections.
Select values.
Badges update to reflect selections. The Global Library badge updates with the filtered count.
To reset filters, click the Clear Filters icon.
Sort Columns
Columns can be sorted in ascending or descending order.
Click a column header to sort ascending.
Click again to sort descending.
Alternatively, right-click a column header and select Sort Ascending or Sort Descending.
Right-click a sorted column to clear sorting.
Resize Column Width
Hover over a column header edge until the resize cursor displays.
Drag to adjust width.
Search
Use the Search field in the master header to narrow the list of objects.
Enter text in the Search field.
Click the Search icon or press Enter.

Manage Objects
Select a row or right-click a row to access actions. Available actions include status updates, editing, viewing properties, and deletion.
Update Status
- Select one or more objects. To select multiple objects, hold Ctrl and select multiple rows.
Click the Change Status icon.
Select Set Active and Set Deprecated.
Edit Object
- Select an object.
- Click the Edit icon. The Edit Object window opens. The Edit Object window varies based on the object type. Available fields and options depend on how the object was saved when promoted to the Global Library.
- Update fields as needed:
- Domain Name (Mapping Domain): Displays the domain name defined in the mapping definition. Update the value as needed. When the Domain Name differs from the Library Display Name, the Domain Name displays first, followed by the Library Display Name in parentheses, for example, AE2(AE).
- Source Identifier (Review Objective): Displays the review objective ID. This value cannot be updated. When the Source Identifier differs from the Library Display Name, the Source Identifier displays first, followed by the Library Display Name in parentheses.
- Library Display Name: Displays the object name in the Global Library. Update this value to allow multiple versions of the same mapped domain or review objective to exist.
- Status: Objects are Active by default when promoted. Select Deprecated to make the object unavailable for import while retaining it in the Global Library.
- Description: Enter or update the object description.
- Tags: Enter or update tags to support search and filtering.
-
Scope: Restricts object availability to selected Therapeutic Areas, Compounds, or Programs.
Click arrows to expand sections.
-
Select the applicable values.
When a scope value is selected, only studies configured with matching values can import the object.
Blue badges update to reflect selections.
Click Save.
Manage Properties
- Select an object. When a review objective object is selected, a details panel opens on the right side of the window.
- Click the Properties icon. The Object Properties window opens.

Click Delete to confirm or Cancel to exit.
Best Practices for Global Library
- Use the Global Library as a central hub for reusable assets. Promote only vetted, reusable Mapped Domains and Review Objectives so other studies can import them. Manage Status, Description, Tags, and Scope (Therapeutic Areas / Compounds / Programs) to control availability and improve searchability. When replacing an object, set the previous version to Deprecated to preserve history while preventing future use.
- Author objects in studies, then promote to the Global Library. Develop and validate Mapped Domains and Review Objectives within a study before promotion. The Global Library serves as a repository, not a content creation workspace. This approach preserves source context and ensures only validated objects are shared.
- Restrict modification access. Assign the Global Library Configure privilege to a limited administrative group. All users can promote objects from studies, but only authorized users can edit or delete objects in the Global Library. Use Last Modified By and Last Modified Date to track changes and maintain accountability. Prefer Deprecated over Delete to retain history.
- Promote reusable logic and avoid duplication. Promote objects that contain reusable logic such as calculations, scope, and rules. After import, configure study-specific thresholds or targets within the study. This reduces duplication, improves maintainability, and keeps the library organized.
- Review dependencies during Mapped Domain promotion. During promotion of Mapped Domains, review the Manage Dependencies step and include all required domains to prevent import failures or inconsistent results. Use Overwrite only when intentionally replacing an existing object. The Global Library does not support versioning. When logic or structure changes significantly, create a new object instead of overwriting to preserve clarity and historical context.
- Organize and document for discoverability. Use the Description field to clearly define purpose and intended usage. Apply consistent, meaningful tags and maintain a controlled tag set. Organize objects using a clear folder structure and naming convention. Consistent metadata improves search accuracy, onboarding, and audit readiness.
