Compare Metadata

The Compare tab in Metadata identifies metadata differences between selected schemas and domains. By default, schemas and their associated data marts are displayed with no selections. Staging Areas can also be displayed and included in the comparison. Select the schemas and associated Data Marts or Staging Areas to compare.

Note: When Metadata is accessed from a study-specific area of elluminate, the current study is automatically selected and its most recent metadata version is loaded. When Metadata is accessed without a study context, the study selector defaults to the first available study.

1. Within Metadata, click the Compare tab.
   
2. Select Data Marts, Staging Areas, or both to display the available sources. Data Marts is selected by default.
3. Under Schemas, select the schemas to compare.
   • Enter text in the Search field to filter the list.
   • Select Select All to include all schemas.
   • Select the checkbox for each individual schema. Use the scrollbar to view all available schemas. As schemas are selected, the associated domains populate the panel to the right.
4. Under Domains, select the domains to compare.
   • Enter text in the Search field to filter the list.
   • Select Select All to include all domains.
   • Select the checkbox for each individual domain. Use the scrollbar to view all available domains.
5. Review the comparison results in the main window. Results are sorted by domain.
   • Use the Previous Page and Next Page icons in the master header to navigate the results
   • By default, 20 rows display per page. Use the down arrow to display 10, 50, or 100 rows per page.
6. From Compare By, select Variable Names (default), Variable Labels, Data Types, or Length/Precision. Results are color-coded to identify discrepancies. The following example compares Length/Precision for the AE domain across studies Clintek_007, Clintek_010, and Clintek_011.
   

By default, all three filter buttons are selected, and the comparison results include discrepancies, partial matches, and identical entries.

Select a filter button to include or exclude the corresponding results. For example, to display only discrepancies, deselect No Discrepancies and Partially Identical.

• No Discrepancies: No highlighting. No differences exist across the selected schemas.
• Partially Identical: Yellow highlighting. For example, a variable may exist in one schema but not another, resulting in a partial rather than identical match.
• Discrepancies: Red highlighting. Differences exist in variables across the selected schemas.

Export Compare Results

Click Export in the master header to export the comparison results to Excel. Color coding and highlighting are retained in the exported file.
